Growth Management Plan

As a city councilor, I will commit to help our city grow in a manner that protects all our residents, maintains open space, provides easy access to recreational opportunities throughout the city, maintains a vibrant business environment, and provides the housing that supports our community’s needs.

To that end, I will encourage the City Council and staff to focus on the development of a Comprehensive Growth Management Plan for South Burlington. Such an effort would bring together all the stakeholders in our city including those who are concerned about education, housing, public safety, infrastructure, parks and recreation, and business development and economic development. This would inform the City Council’s efforts to project and plan for the cost implications of different styles, rates, and types of growth and ensure that the development path and actions we take will not overburden our municipal systems or residents’ pocketbooks.

The existing City Plan 2024, in conjunction with our developing Parks and Rec master plan, Bike/Ped master plan, and Land Development Regulations, outline a vision for a resilient family-oriented future for SB. These plans, which serve as an overarching growth management vision, paint a picture of the quality of life and city character to which we aspire. However, we need a thorough analysis and clear understanding of their cost implications on our infrastructure and tax base in order to bring about a feasible and vibrant future for all.
